September 24 Put Bill 208 Back on the Clock

AACV says the committee agenda makes the next question simple: what evidence must be public before adult access is cut?

The agenda changed the week

the September 24 Economic Future agenda listed a review of Bill 208, previous business on motions adjourned at a previous meeting, and next steps in the review. AACV is treating that as a process signal, not as a decision.

The adult-access test

  • Publish the written-submission themes.
  • Identify whether youth access is coming from legal retail, online sellers, peers, or informal resale.
  • Show inspection results before narrowing lawful products.
  • Explain how adults who smoke will retain a legal off-ramp.

Why the test belongs in public

Alberta already describes an 18+ framework, ID expectations, retailer fines, and an enforcement team on its smoking and vaping rules page. If Bill 208 is back in motion, that existing framework should be measured first.
