Adult access status note / October 9, 2026

No Meeting Does Not Mean No Work on Bill 208

AACV says the absence of a scheduled Economic Future meeting should be used to build the evidence record before adult access is restricted.

The file is paused, not settled

the Economic Future committee page was updated October 9 and lists no currently scheduled meetings. It also states that Bill 208 was referred to the committee on April 20, 2026. That means the public file remains open even if the calendar is quiet.

What should happen during the quiet week

  • Publish a plain summary of written submissions.
  • List what enforcement data the committee has requested.
  • Separate legal adult access from youth access routes.
  • Explain whether amendments are still being considered.

Adult access needs an evidence floor

Alberta rules and enforcement already describes an 18+ framework, ID rules, retailer fines, and a Tobacco and Vaping Enforcement Team. AACV believes Bill 208 should not move again until that existing framework is measured in public.
