Before Fall Debate, Put the Committee Record in Plain English

AACV asks for a plain-language public record before Alberta narrows legal adult access under Bill 208.

The public needs the record, not just the slogan

The Economic Future committee page says Bill 208 was referred to committee on April 20, 2026, and that written submissions closed at noon on August 17, 2026. If the file moves again this fall, Albertans should be able to see what the committee heard before adult access is reduced.

What AACV wants published

  • A simple summary of submissions by theme.
  • Inspection and complaint data for legal retailers.
  • Any evidence separating licensed retail from informal, online, or illegal supply.
  • A note on how adults who smoke are expected to move away from cigarettes if legal alternatives shrink.

Why it matters to adult consumers

Alberta already applies an 18+ framework with photo ID expectations for tobacco and vaping products, according to Alberta rules and enforcement. A serious adult policy should show why that framework cannot be strengthened before legal access is narrowed.
