Alberta Already Has Adult-Only Vaping Rules
The question before Alberta is not whether vaping should be age-restricted. It already is. The question is whether Bill 208 fixes the access points that are actually failing.
The legal framework is not blank
Alberta's public rules already set 18 years and older as the minimum age for tobacco and vaping purchases, possession, and consumption. The same framework includes government-issued photo identification requirements, limits on displays and promotion, sales-location restrictions, and enforcement tools.
That matters because Bill 208 is being debated inside an existing system. Alberta should first show where that system is failing and which channels are responsible for youth access.

- Publish inspection results for lawful retailers by region.
- Separate inspected retail failures from online, social, and informal supply.
- Use penalties where age-verification rules are broken.
- Protect adult access through channels the province can inspect.
A lawful adult market with visible rules is easier to improve than an illegal market that never asks for identification.
