Adult Choice Requires Enforcement Receipts
Alberta already has an 18+ framework. The next test is whether Bill 208 targets the actual source of youth access or simply narrows the lawful adult market.
The rulebook exists
The province already sets age, identification, display, advertising, and use restrictions for tobacco and vaping products. That means Alberta is not starting from zero. It is deciding whether enforcement has been measured well enough to justify a new restriction.
AGLC's contraband tobacco reporting shows the kind of public detail Albertans should expect: investigations, cartons seized, retail value, and avoided provincial tax. Vaping policy deserves the same level of proof before lawful adult access is reduced.
What AACV wants published
- Inspection counts for licensed retailers by region.
- Failed age-verification checks separated from online and informal supply.
- Complaints received, penalties issued, and repeat-offender actions.
- A clear plan for illegal sellers that do not check identification.
Adult choice is not a request for weak rules. It is a request for rules that are enforced where the evidence says they are needed.
